PTFE coating O-ring is an O-ring which coated with a PTFE coating on the surface of an ordinary rubber O-ring to improve the sealing effect of the elastomer by reducing the surface friction coefficient.
PTFE is a very durable O-ring material that is unaffected by almost all known alkalis, acids, and solvents. It can endure temperatures between -70°C and +250°C and is robust, abrasion-resistant, and durable. Additionally, it has exceptional resistance to the elements, ozone, and electricity. This makes it the preferred O-ring for usage in the telecommunications, food, pharmaceutical, and aerospace industries.
A less expensive alternative to FFKM materials would be PTFE O-rings, however they are difficult to compress and have limited memory, making it difficult for them to revert to their former shape. If put under constant stress, this might not produce the finest long-lasting seal.
