The two fundamental principles of hydraulic separation and coagulation/Flocculation underpin the operation of the Solids Contact Clarifier. When the supply stream comes into proximity to chemical mixes and suspended sludge particles from previously treated water, coagulation and flocculation take place in the flocculation zone. As smaller particles combine to form larger, heavier particles, this interaction also encourages the creation of floc. The hydraulic separation technique moves water into the settling zone for clarification using an up-flow arrangement.
